Mr. Edmond Cheah was appointed on 20 July 2017. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting. He is a certified Chartered Accountant with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He is also a Certified Financial Planner with the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia.
Mr. Edmond Cheah’s professional experience has been in the fields of audit, merchant banking, corporate and financial advising, portfolio and investment management and unit trust management. He was previously the Chief Executive Officer cum Executive Director and Investment Committee Member of Public Mutual Berhad. He was also formerly the President and founder member of the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia (FPAM), the Vice President and council member of the Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia (FiMM), a former Task Force Member on Islamic Finance for Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority (LOFSA), a former member on the Securities Market Consultative Panel in Bursa Malaysia and currently the Treasurer for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). He co-authored a financial planning book entitled “Financial Freedom – Your Guide to Lifetime Financial Planning” and a second book entitled “Financial Freedom – Through Malaysian Equities and Unit Trusts”. He also sits on the boards of several public companies.
Mr. Edmond Cheah is also a Director and the Chairman of Manulife Investment Management (M) Berhad and several public listed companies.
Ms. Jasbender Kaur was appointed as a director on 20 July 2017 and as a Principal Officer in April 2019. She graduated from the University of London, United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Law (Hons) and was called to the Malaysian Bar in year 1996. She is also a certified Company Secretary.
Ms. Jasbender Kaur has almost twenty-two (22) years of experience in the life insurance industry in Malaysia. She joined Manulife in year 2005 and was appointed as the Head of Legal, Compliance and Corporate Secretariat in year 2011. She is currently the Chief Counsel & Corporate Services Officer of Manulife Holdings Berhad (“MHB”). In her role, she is directly responsible for all legal matters including corporate governance, and oversees regulatory compliance and risk management matters within MHB and its subsidiaries excluding Manulife Investment Management (M) Berhad. In addition to her role, she has headed up several different departments from time to time in the course of her tenure with Manulife. Prior to joining Manulife, she served as Legal Officer with a large multinational insurer in Malaysia before being appointed Managing Editor with a world-leading provider of professional information solutions.
Ms. Jasbender Kaur is also a director of Britama Properties Sdn. Bhd.
Mr. Jonathan Yen was appointed as a director on 18 November 2024. He graduated from the National University of Australia, with Master and Bachelor of Actuarial Studies. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and Singapore Actuarial Society.
Mr. Jonathan Yen has almost eighteen (18) years of experience in the life insurance industry. He joined Manulife in 2018 and was appointed the Regional Chief Bancassurance Officer, Asia where he led the Asia Bancassurance team across 10 markets. He is currently the Chief Commercial Officer of Manulife Insurance Berhad (“MIB”) since April 2023. In his role, he is responsible to drive acceleration of growth and lead key strategic enterprise–wide initiatives. He has proven strategic and execution capabilities across Distribution, Product Management, Finance and Actuarial.
